Cream of the crop
Eating out and having a drink are two simple pleasures of life. We love working on menus and other stuff that is related to the food & drink industry.
Café Elia
200 x 200mm | In use | Hard bound cover with screw system for inserts
Café Elia is one of Malta’s oldest catering establishments. Located in Hamrun, it operates a classic style cafeteria, but it also operates a nation wide catering service operation. The new menu request was based on the fact that the old menu had been around for too long, and it needed to be updated to look and feel more classy, and at the same have the flexibility needed to update on a regular basis. Hence, the screw system for inserts was chosen. The hard bound covers were individually hand-made by Impressions.
Piccolo Padre
200 x 200mm | Not in use | Hard bound cover with screw system for inserts
Although the menu has been updated since then, this menu was designed with the same principle of offering a hard-wearing and elegant cover. Its flexibility was attained by the screw system for the inserts - which could be updated, changed and removed at any point in time. The rustic feel of the design was created to match the warm and casual atmosphere of the place.
Fat Harry’s Pub
Various | in use | Laminated board
The menus for Fat Harry’s need to be designed in line with the newly designed brand - reflecting the dynamic pub atmosphere of the established venues on the island. Strong graphics and colours, diversified typography, accompanied by custom written phrases that created a humoristic link between the medieval roots of the place and the present day.
Tal-Familja Restaurant
690 x 310mm, folds to 230 x 310mm | in use | Laminated board
Tal-Familja Restaurant in Marsascala is a well-known family run establishment that has been around for more than two decades. A few years back, it was felt that the old menu with plastic inserts needed to be replaced with something more fresh and practical. The idea was that of having a menu that opens up and that comfortably displays all the categorised sections, making it easier for the guests to identify their choices.
InterContinental Malta
Various | Not in use | Laminated board
A few years back, InterContinental Malta updated the design of the menus of its various outlets to match the Brand guidelines that had just been updated. These menus, colourful, practical and visually appealing, are a good exercise in brand adaptation.
Kempinski San Lawrenz Resort & Spa
200 x 200mm | Not in use | Various
When the San Lawrenz Leisure Resort & Spa opened its doors way back in June of 1999, it immediately established itself as a brand of high-class and luxury. The first set of menus was designed as a set, each one to match the relative outlet. Special uncoated and coloured GF Smith board was ordered to achieve the desired result. The application of gold foil to the covers, together with the purposely commissioned paintings by a Gozitan artist created a very stylish effect. On the inside the pages had cutters so that they could take on the custom inserts which could be changed on a daily basis. A few years later - when the resort became officially a Kempinski property, these menus were replaced and redesigned. Details of the original paintings were retained, whereas the feel of the menu was changed to a more modern one.
Luna @ Palazzo Parisio
Various | Not in use | Laminated board
A few years back, we designed this set of menus for Luna at the prestigious Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar. The idea was that of bringing together a set of menus which looked and felt similar, whilst keeping the feel of prestige and quality. The menus were all digitally printed on metallic board, and they were also matt laminated for durability.
Mezè @ Hotel Juliani
300 x 300mm | Not in use | Laminated board with screw drilled pages
Although relatively old, this menu still remains one of our favourites for its looks and feel. Although not extensive, each dish was represented individually and incorporated with the generic look and feel of the then Mezè at Hotel Juliani.
Cent Anni Winelist
200 x 200mm | In use | Hard cover screw system for inserts
Yet another menu designed to provide a hard, durable cover and offering the possibility of having updated inserts thanks to the screw system. In this case, the beauty of the exercise lies in the fact that only 6 menu covers were required, and so we opted to create 3 different designs, of which two of each where produced. The designs of the covers are inspired from the actual flooring and surroundings of this old Winebar in Gharghur.
